Even though snacking all day may be one of the reasons you are gaining weight in the first place, if you eat the right foods then your snacking habits will actually work towards your weight loss goals instead of against them.

As a matter of fact, I consider healthy snacking during the work day extremely important, especially because I see so many people who go hungry during the day in an attempt to lose weight, rather than filling up on healthy foods and losing weight without hunger.

There are some very healthy snacks to eat at your desk, that will help you burn fat while you are at work… but if you look for them online you may run into just another list of healthy food with no concern as to whether it would actually be convenient to eat at your desk or not.

There is some really good information out there, but some of the suggestions you may find are a little more time involved or messy, and so here I have included only foods that you can easily eat at your desk, maybe even discreetly if need be.

I eat at my desk constantly, but everything I eat is completely healthy and so I have the confidence of knowing that my habits are actually making me lose weight and not the other way around. Also, it never interferes with my work because the food selections I bring with me are so convenient.

I have had personal success in losing weight with each of the healthy desk snacks I mention below!

Energy Balls

This one does require a little of preparation, but if you make some no-bake energy balls at home then you’ll be set to have a super balanced, nutrient-packed snack at work, convenient for any time.

The best thing about energy balls is that you can customize them however you would like… there are tons of easy recipes online with all different flavors and ingredients.

Personally, I like to keep it simple, by mixing old-fashioned oatmeal, peanut butter, and hemp hearts (chia and flax seeds are also great). I use as many oats as possible to keep the consistency thick/crunchy and also to keep a better ratio of nutrients. Other popular ingredients that others like to use are honey, chopped nuts, coconut, and chopped fruit.

Most fruits make great weight loss foods for the office. Berries are the best as far as health goes, but they can make a mess and aren’t as easy to eat on the job as an apple, a small orange, or even a banana.

Most people really enjoy fruit when they do eat it, but it’s often forgotten as a super healthy food that helps you lose weight.

Fruit is both satisfying and filling for your body, but because of the great taste it also is great for replacing other unhealthy cravings for things that are sweet.

Almonds/Peanuts

Nuts in general are great for weight control.

Nuts digest very slowly, are packed with nutrients such as fiber, protein, and healthy fat. Just a small amount of nuts can go a long way towards satisfying your hunger, eating 1/4 cup or about one handful per day, will replace other junk foods and help you burn fat while feeling satisfied

Most of all, nuts may be the most convenient of all the healthy snacks for work listed here! Remember to buy dry-roasted and no salt versions to keep oil and sodium low.

Fat-Free Greek Yogurt

Yogurt is yet another healthy but compact choice for a healthy work snack.

Although the best foods to lose weight with are “whole”, meaning that they are completely natural to the human diet and unmodified. Though yogurt is not one of these whole foods, it is still a great healthy snack to lose weight weight, especially when you are replacing unhealthy foods with it.

As long as you take a moment to look for the right yogurt.. you’ll see that it has no fat (fat from dairy is bad fat), lots of protein, and some of them even have a bit of fiber. Note that the flavored ones will have added sugar, so try to buy the one with the least sugar / most protein that you can still enjoy.

A great way to add natural and healthy flavor to your Greek yogurt is to mix berries into it. Frozen berries are particularly good for this since they are cheaper and keep longer, and it won’t matter that they are a bit soggy when thawing when you stir them in yogurt.

If you buy the individual sealed cups and have a refrigerator at work, yogurt makes a great snack to keep around that you can just toss in the trash when you are done.

Carrots/Celery

So maybe they aren’t the most exciting snack… but vegetables are the absolute best when it comes to weight loss food. Carrots and celery are two that can be eaten on the go, and so make great desk food.

Vegetables are super low in calories but high in nutrients and also very filling, which makes them perfect for burning fat. When it comes to weight loss all vegetables are great choices, and you can eat as many as you want and know that you are burning more fat and replacing other unhealthy foods in your diet.

Vegetable Juice

Vegetable juice may not have been what you were expecting on a list of snacks, but it can’t be overlooked as an amazing on the go source of nutrients. It’s another choice that requires just a little preparation from home… but bringing homemade juice with you, especially with leafy greens such as kale in it, can have a huge impact on your weight loss.

Once you’ve made the juice, all you have to do is show up to work with a sealed cup and drink it. Adding a fruit such as an apple to your juice can really help to add some flavor to it. This shouldn’t be confused with a smoothie, that has dairy in it and needs to be eaten quickly before it’s ruined. Juice can go with you to work without any problems.

I have always hated eating vegetables personally, but I know how important they are for weight control so I get most of my veggie intake through green juice. A cup of juice can contain the nutrients that a whole plateful of vegetables contains.

Pumpkin Seeds/Sunflower Kernels

Seeds are another frequently forgotten healthy snack that’s loaded with good fat and protein. One of the best things about eating seeds for a snack is that they take up time and boredom as well as fill you with good nutrients.

I mentioned pumpkin and sunflower seeds because they are more common to eat all by themselves, but there are even more healthy choices such as hemp, chia, and flax, which are popular for mixing with yogurt, smoothies, and sprinkling on salads.

Just like nuts, get dry roasted and unsalted when possible to keep oil and sodium to a minimum.

Peanut Butter/Almond Butter

Why mention peanut butter when I already listed nuts? Peanut butter is a little bit different, as it gives a quick energy boost and should not be eaten in large quantities as it is high in calories. But don’t let that scare you away from it, it’s a common weight loss food even for those who achieve getting super lean.

A tablespoon of peanut butter is one of the quickest ways to get a healthy energy boost in a super busy office, and can save you from making an unhealthy choice when you are in a bind. Just like whole nuts, it is packed with protein and healthy unsaturated fat.
